Mumtaz Khan Chopan
Mumtaz Khan Chopan is an interdisciplinary artist who explores the topics of conflict, displacement, politics, led by study and research whose painting and photography practice is strongly informed by his personal life. In 2013, Mumtaz was forced to flee his home country of Afghanistan due to war and discrimination.He co-initiated the Publishing Solidarity platform (together with Anang Saptoto, Alec Steadman and Sanne Oorthuizen), developing a children's colouring book to share the situation of refugees in Indonesia and to raise funds to support one particular refugee community in Jakarta during the Covid-19 pandemic. He is based in the city of Yogyakarta where he continues his art practices. His works come from deep personal experiences and collective memories of displacement, uncertainty, and virtual life.
